Pronounced "boo" // Our name is a twist on one of our dog Brandie’s many nicknames: Brandie-Boo

Located in beautiful Conception Bay South Newfoundland, the Boou Bakery + Pet Shop is an independent, local neighbourhood pet shop. Our shop is exclusively for pets (sorry, we’re not a bakery for people!) and includes an on site commercial kitchen where we prepare our own Boou Bakery brand treats, cakes and more. Windows in our shop look into the kitchen space where you can watch us making our fresh products throughout the day. Our fully stocked pet shop includes products from over 12 small Newfoundland business owners, many of which are friends from the market circuit where we started almost 10 years ago.

You can find a selection of pet shop staples at our store including:

  • Products for both cats AND dogs
  • Big food brands including: Open Farm, Big Country Raw, Fromm Family Foods and Nulo
  • Apparel including collars, leashes, everyday and seasonal bandanas and other accessories
  • Bones, bully sticks, chews, and treats, many of which are Canadian sourced
  • Birthday section including party hats and crowns, cake toppers, bandanas, birthday toys and treats
  • Grooming supplies including brushes, combs, shampoos, detanglers, oral care
  • Stuffies, tug toys, enrichment toys and more
  • Supplements and health products
  • Boou Bakery brand products including fresh treats, jerky and cupcakes all made on site

    How we started

    After adopting our dog Brandie in 2013, it was important that we feed her the best quality and most wholesome food that we could find. The treat options, in particular, that dominated the market were filled with mile-long
    lists of unpronounceable ingredients, unnecessary additives and nasty preservatives.

    As a hobby baker I decided to try my hand at making her treats, spending my free time researching, developing recipes and experimenting with flavour combinations. I started sharing Brandie’s freshly baked treats with family and neighbors and decided to try my hand at selling them.

    Boou Dog Treats officially began and started attending local markets and events in September 2015. We expanded our product line to include our chews – single ingredient homemade jerky. Soon after that our product line expanded again to include beautifully decorated cakes and cupcakes, which we are well known for today.

    Over the years Boou has become a staple at local markets, attending dozens a year with our fresh pet treats. We have developed a large and loyal customer base, getting to meet and connect with so many of you face to face at these events.

    In 2023 we rebranded from Boou Dog Treats to Boou Bakery to better represent the wide variety of products that we offer and emphasize the freshness of our products. Later that same year we signed the lease for our
    current home at 119 Conception Bay Highway just outside of St. John's. After a long year of renovations the Boou Bakery + Pet Shop opened it’s doors in June of 2024, marking the beginning of how we exist today.

    Our Boou Bakery Promise

    We have one ambitious goal here at the bakery: To provide treats that are both healthy AND delicious, that are made fresh instead of being highly processed, refined and can sit on a shelf for years and look the same.

    Most importantly, we are a treat bakery NOT a commercial treat manufacturer. This means that all of our products are either baked or dehydrated fresh without preservatives, additives or artificial flavours. The downside to fresh treats is that they need to be stored like real food -- Not left on the counter like traditional store bought treats.

    We pride ourselves on having options for every pup, from notoriously picky to lover of all foods, overweight, overactive, purebred, rescue and everything in between; And almost 10 years in we’re doing a pretty darn good job of it! We hope your pet enjoys our treats as much as we enjoy making them.
